Industrial action is being carried out by members of the Society of Radiographers, as part of their ongoing dispute with the Government.
The strike will last 48 hours, beginning at 8am on Tuesday 25 July and ending at 8am Thursday 27 July.
Radiographers play a key role in performing imaging examinations such as x-rays and scans to help us diagnose our patients. During the upcoming industrial action, a limited service will be provided. This will see radiographers delivering urgent and emergency care at a service level similar to that which operates on Christmas Day.
We will work hard to deliver as much care as possible, but the strike action means that we will need to reschedule some planned appointments and scans. These appointments will be rearranged as soon as possible. We will contact all patients who are affected by these cancellations, but it may be necessary to stand down some appointments on the day. There may some patients whose appointment goes ahead but it will be necessary for them to re-attend the hospital at a later date for a scan or x-ray. If patients do not hear from us, they should still attend their appointment.
Both during the strike and in the days that follow, there may also be delays with scans for patients being admitted to hospital,or already staying here. Our teams will be working hard provide treatment as quickly as they can and we ask for patience.
Please be aware that if you have been referred to our radiology department by your GP for a routine x-ray, our team will only be able to see emergency and urgent care patients during the strike period, therefore you are advised not to attend during the period of industrial action as the walk-in x-ray service will be closed.
We know that delays in receiving this care may be worrying for patients and their families, and we will be working hard to deliver as much treatment as possible.
While this dispute is a matter for the Society of Radiographers and the Government, we hope to see a resolution soon.
