We’re encouraging smokers in Swindon to join the thousands of people in our local area who have already kicked the habit, this Stoptober.
The Trust is proud to have played its part in helping smokers to give quitting a go over the last year, by offering smoking cessation support, public health talks and Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
Smoking remains the leading preventable cause of premature death, and our partners in the Swindon Borough Council's Public Health team also offer smoking cessation clinics right across the town.
They have also re-signed the Local Government Declaration on Tobacco Control to show our shared commitment to reducing smoking rates in Swindon.
Local resident Paul shared his smoking cessation story. He said: "I had been smoking for over 40 years, thirty a day, every day. I must have tried to stop smoking about 40 times.
The reason I think I’ve done it this time was the constant support from the stop smoking service. The call every week or fortnight with encouragement, and by getting the patches and mints, it gave me the confidence and boost to stop smoking.
To anyone who wants to give up, don't do it along. Go and see your GP or pharmacist, or contact your local stop smoking service. They are there to help and I wish you all the best."
