Get help for your youngsters this half-term

With the start of the February half-term, local parents and carers are reminded about the support available should your youngster fall ill or injure themselves this week.

Across Swindon and Wiltshire, there are a number of healthcare services available to treat under 18s, outside of a hospital environment.

This includes a GP or pharmacist, a Minor Injury Unit or your health visitor.

You can also seek advice on the NHS Healthier Together website and app, or via NHS 111 online. If you're not sure what to do, calling NHS 111 can help to direct you to the right place for your child's care needs.

Dr Andy Virr, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, said: "We know that if you have a child who is unwell, this can be a worrying time. There are simple things you can do yourselves, with simple over-the-counter medicines like paracetamol.

"Most infections will be mild, usually caused by a virus, and will be self-limiting. Keep your child well at home, give them regular doses of medicine, lots of cuddles and eat and drink little and often."
