An absolute priority for us is the health and wellbeing of our staff.
We know that we must look after our staff first so that they, in turn, can provide the best care for our patients.
This has been particularly prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic and we know that our staff will need on-going support for years to come.
We have invested in a comprehensive staff health and wellbeing package which is available to all staff, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In December 2020, our health and wellbeing team became nationally recognised after they were awarded the Nursing Times Award for the best health and wellbeing initiative.
It includes:
- 24/7 mental health support
- On-site staff support services
- Occupational Health
- Wobble Rooms
- Tea trolley to offer food and refreshments to staff on the wards
- Staff wellness days and family fun days
- Freedom to Speak Up Service
- TrIM training
- Schwartz Rounds
- Line manager support.

Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs)
We also offer a two-day mental health first aid training programme, which is facilitated by our internal Health and Wellbeing team and accredited by MHFA England.
MHFA training increases of awareness of mental health difficulties, teaches skills in how to respond to colleagues who are experiencing such difficulties, and where to signpost them for support.
Employee Assistance Programme
The Employee Assistance Programme is a service available around the clock, 24/7, over the telephone, and online to all members of staff.
The service aims to answer your questions quickly and will also refer you to the most appropriate source of support, including counselling, legal, financial, childcare, and consumer experts.
Available no matter when or where, anytime, any day, support is just a telephone call away. You can even find support online. There is no limit to the number of issues you can gain support on, and there is no cost to use the service.
Tea trolley
We have a tea trolley that visits wards every day to give staff a hot drink and a snack. This initiative has been extended from a winter-only service to one that now runs all year round.
