Referral
This service is only available to patients who have a confirmed diagnosis of AS.
You will be referred from Rheumatology or by a physiotherapist, and will be seen once per year, ideally the same time each year, to monitor your measurements and for advice on areas to help maintain range of movement.
Appointment times
Friday, 10.30am-2.00pm
Location
Physiotherapy Department, South Car Park, Great Western Hospital
What to expect
You will be referred to the physiotherapist who runs the AS review system, who will contact you to arrange for you to come in.
At the first appointment, we will monitor your:
- Posture
- Right and left side flexion
- Lumbar flexion
- Hip abduction
- Cervical rotation
You will be asked questions to help us understand the disease activity.
We will calculate scores, which will provide baseline measurements, which we will later refer back to, to compare your progress.
We will record your BASMI (Bath AS Metrology Index) and BASDAI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis
Disease Activity Index) scores.
If there is any loss of movement, we will provide advice to help restore it.
We will also talk to you about the importance of keeping up stretches.
