Referral and class
You will be referred from a physio or through the Pain Team.
You will be shown in a group of four or fewer, how to use a TENS machine.
At the same class, you will be shown individually the best setting, and where to put it, for your own needs.
You will be sent an appointment in the post.
Meetings
- Monday, 9.00am-10.00am
- Wednesday, 11.00am-12.00pm
Location
Physiotherapy Department, Modular facility, South Car Park, Great Western Hospital
What to expect
You will be loaned a TENS machine from a company called Nidd Valley - initially for a two-week trial, free of charge.
You will fill in a loan form, then go over contraindications and precautions to make sure you are suitable to use the TENS before it is issued.
An explanation of how the TENS works and when not to use the machine will be explained.
You will then set up the TENS and go over the settings; you will also receive a handout to refer to afterwards.
It's not difficult to set up, and once done, you will only use one button to adjust it.
You will have a chance to ask questions about the TENS.
How to purchase or send back your TENS machine
Nidd Valley will write to you within the trial period to offer you an option to either purchase the TENS or send it back.
It cost £39.00 and includes a five-year guarantee.
- You can pay by cheque, postal order or debit card.
- There is an option to pay by instalments; you will have to arrange this yourself with Nidd Valley.
- If you wish to send it back there is a pre-paid envelope in your pack and you will have to return to your post office. (There is a reminder on the envelope to get proof of postage to cover yourself.)
